It has been an exciting year since we first announced Health Gorilla would become the first CommonWell Connector™ to make CommonWell services available to our clients.
For those of you not that familiar with the CommonWell Connector™ program, first announced in February 2019, it allows participating CommonWell members who provide integration platforms and services to offer CommonWell services to their customers, including both to provider organizations and to other end-user facing platforms such as EHRs.
Last summer, Health Gorilla went live with our first client leveraging CommonWell services via the Patient360™ API. Patient360 allows any enabled provider to connect to CommonWell and embed querying functionality into their own products, in turn allowing the provider to seamlessly request and retrieve their participating patients’ medical records from any other provider on the CommonWell network.
Now, we have more than a dozen more clients using CommonWell services, including:
- Heal — Brings qualified medical doctors to patients’ homes through the touch of an app.
- MDPortals — Provides a complete longitudinal health record to physicians and proactively flags critical care updates.
- WellVia — Connects patients to board-certified physicians and behavioral health specialists through phone, mobile devices, and video.
Peyton Reaves, Chief Technology Officer at WellVia, shared his thoughts about connecting to CommonWell in our press release today: “To truly improve outcomes for our patients, we need access to the full set of clinical information. Accessing CommonWell through Health Gorilla’s API removed the burden of technical integration and gives physicians the context they need to provide the highest quality care possible.”
We’ve also made significant progress in bringing CommonWell services to providers in Puerto Rico. Since connecting 20 federally qualified health centers through our partnership with the Puerto Rico Primary Care Association Network, we’ve also partnered with Menonita Health System and Dorado Health system, which collectively treat over 500,000 patients across 10 hospitals. In addition, we’re working with Puerto Rican developers, like EHR EZ and Medirec EHR, which make up a majority of the ambulatory EHR market in Puerto Rico. We look forward to connecting more providers and developers to CommonWell to make the benefits of interoperability accessible for all.
Want to see our connection in action? Health Gorilla will be one of eight CommonWell members participating in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase™ at HIMSS20 in Orlando, March 10-12. To learn more, visit https://www.commonwellalliance.org/himss20/.
