One week ago, we were just wrapping up our 2022 CommonWell Fall Annual Summit! A time to congregate with coopetitors, welcome new members and reconnect with former colleagues and friends. This year we had the added bonus of basking in the—shockingly—warm weather in Kansas City. A fine prelude to CommonWell’s upcoming 10-year anniversary in March.

A few key themes were palpable throughout the 3-day Summit:

  • The growth of the CommonWell network has surpassed our wildest dreams—especially for those who were involved since 2013.
  • Simplicity in interoperability—and in health care as a whole—is what we continue to strive for.
  • TEFCA is here and has the potential take interoperability to the next level.
  • Providers are getting reams of health data. Our next challenge is making it more usable.
  • CommonWell is ready to continue working with its members—many who have expressed intent to become QHINs under TEFCA—to ensure its success.

We were thrilled to have Micky Tripathi, the U.S. National Coordinator for Health IT, in person to highlight federal efforts related to information blocking, USCDI+ and TEFCA.

For a unique twist, we also invited a few external partners and non-members to join us on a panel discussing a critical component of our work, Individual Access Services (IAS). Participating in the panel, Building Trust Together, were:

  • Jennifer Blumenthal, OneRecord*
  • Jonathan Shannon, LexisNexis
  • Blake Hall, ID.me
  • Jason Sherwin, Clear

We look forward to reconnecting and officially celebrating the 10th anniversary of CommonWell at HIMSS23 in Chicago, IL on Wednesday, April 19 after the exhibit floor closes. Stay tuned for more details!
