Designated QHIN badge

CommonWell Health Alliance is now a Designated Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN)

With 37,000 provider orgs connected, more than 244 million unique individuals served and more than 8.5 billion records retrieved on the network—the scale at CommonWell is unmatched. This scale is already available today within the CommonWell network and members that connect get immediate access and will benefit from ongoing growth both internally and with external frameworks.

Uniquely Qualified

The architectural concept espoused by Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement™ (TEFCA™) builds on the approach that the Alliance has already successfully delivered to the market nationwide. The combination of a Master Person Index (MPI), Record Locator Service (RLS) and Data Broker together allow for scalable interoperability at a national level. Meet Susan to learn how this works today.

Diverse Membership

Our diverse membership–which represents more than 20 care settings–illustrates that interoperability across different care settings is growing and will continue to grow with TEFCA.

Record Locator Service

Record Locator Service + Scale

Our high functioning RLS finds all records associated with a patient, no matter where the care was delivered, eliminating the need for geo-searching and guessing to streamline access.

TEFCA and CommonWell

TEFCA, developed by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC), is an initiative designed to establish a national network of interconnected organizations known as QHINs. These QHINs will possess record location capabilities and will collaborate to enhance data exchange across the country. Under TEFCA, companies seeking to join the nationwide network have the opportunity to participate with a Designated QHIN.

TEFCA’s ultimate goal is to streamline clinical data exchange by providing a unified pathway for healthcare organizations to participate in a QHIN and access clinical data across all networks within TEFCA.

Since 2013, CommonWell has been diligently building and expanding its nationwide health data exchange network, leveraging a highly efficient Master Person Index (MPI), Record Locator Service (RLS), and Data Broker. As of 2024, CommonWell is now a Designated QHIN with over 70+ members, ongoing collaboration with the ONC, and a scalable infrastructure, CommonWell is well-equipped for the future of interoperability.
